Welcome to NEDA – Long Island.

The National Eating Disorders Association – Long Island (NEDA-LI) is a regional affiliate of the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA). We are a non-profit organization dedicated to the study, treatment and prevention of eating disorders, including anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder.
From our offices in Long Island, we serve Nassau, Suffolk and Queens.

We provide support, resources and referrals to sufferers and their families, and education and consultation to professionals in the field. Our membership is comprised of a partnership between professionals, sufferers, family members and volunteers who seek to meet the variety of needs connected with eating disorder problems.

Our services:

1) Support Groups
Monthly support groups for sufferers and their families are run by professionals in the field. (CSW, PhD, PsyD, MD, RD). The format of these groups includes professional lectures, followed by questions and discussion. Participants are given the opportunity to share and learn in a supportive, professionally facilitated atmosphere. There are currently five groups running in locations throughout Long Island and Queens.

2) Referral Sources
A list of qualified eating disorder therapists, nutritionists, centers and hospitals in Long Island and Queens is maintained in our national office. Those in need of a referral can get help today with information from the national NEDA website.

3) Education
School Outreach Programs - Early and effective education is extremely important in the prevention and identification of eating disorders. To this end, we provide experienced professionals who are available to speak to students – from elementary school to graduate level classes. We also train educators and support staff in dealing with eating disorder issues within the schools.

Public Conference - Annually, we run a FREE public conference, combining professionals and those in recovery to provide education and support. To learn more, call us at 516-794-0415.

Professional Training - Workshops, advanced training and case discussion groups for counselors and professional who work with the eating disordered population is essential and available thorough NEDA-LI. Annual Support Group Training is available to professionals locally and is being used to train professionals nationally.

Resource Room - Our latest project is the development of an eating disorder resource room which will offer the public easy access to current books, periodical literature, newsletters, audiocassettes and videotapes. You may also visit the Information & Resources section of the national NEDA website or Shop Our Store.

NEDA-LI feels that early and effective education is extremely important in identifying the warning signs of those who already have an eating disorder and to prevent others from developing one. To this end, we provide experienced professionals, FREE of charge, who are available to give lectures throughout our school system, starting from elementary school to college classes. In addition, lectures and consultation to staff are furnished with emphasis on supplying the materials and knowledge educators need for teaching their own classes.

Advanced training and supervision of counselors and professionals who work with the eating disordered population is essential and available through NEDA-LI. For more information, please contact NEDA-LI at 516-794-0415.
